    The Assessment of Geomorphic Processes inlcudes both a broad assessment of geomorphic processes for the Santa Clara River watershed and reach-scale studies focused on the mainstem river in Ventura County. The watershed assessment was based primarily on synthesis of existing information and investigates the characteristics of hillslope, fluvial, and estuarine geomorphic processes, with the goal of providing an understanding of processes at the watershed level in their current and historical context, and highlighting how changes have occurred. The reach-scale studies refined our understanding of the fluvial geomorphology of the lower mainstem by examining historical morphological changes in the river corridor and linking these changes to the characteristics of historical flood events. Establishing these linkages will assist in defining a series of hazards and assets associated with the floodplain in the lower Santa Clara River, and thus provide the basis for making informed, process-based decisions regarding potential land acquisition, restoration, and management.
